It is called Claude Science. They connected their top model to more than 60 research databases, genomics, proteomics, cheminformatics, the tools scientists actually use, and opened it to anyone with a paid account. They are funding 50 research projects with up to $30,000 in credits each, and applications close July 15.
Here is the question I keep coming back to. For two years, most AI at work has meant writing emails and summarizing meetings. Claude Science is a model sitting inside the actual work of discovery, running chemistry queries a trained researcher would run.
Most chemical distributors are not running R&D. But plenty of us sit right next to suppliers who are, and formulation and technical service are a real part of this business.
If the work that used to take a specialist now takes a good question and an afternoon, the edge moves to whoever asks the sharpest questions. I am not sure most companies are built to reward that yet.
