Claude wins on writing. But, the tool most people use is ChatGPT.

As of April 2026, GPT-5.5, Gemini 3.1 Pro, and Claude Opus 4.7 are all capable. The differences matter for specific kinds of work.

GPT-5.5 is the broadest package. Voice mode, image generation, custom GPTs, and code interpreter are all built in. If you want one tool that handles most things without extra setup, ChatGPT is the most complete option right now. GPT 5.5 is now the clear leader for image generation, even beating my beloved Gemini Nano Banana version 2. The image below was generated in GPT 5.5. Nice, right?

Gemini 3.1 Pro wins on ecosystem and multimodal. It reads your Gmail, pulls from Google Drive, processes video and audio the others still cannot, and carries a 2 million token context window. If your work lives in Google Workspace, Gemini is the practical call.

Claude Opus 4.7, released April 16, wins on writing and reasoning. In blind evaluations, Claude content was preferred 47% of the time versus 29% for GPT-5.5 and 24% for Gemini. It also leads on complex coding and verifies its own outputs before reporting back. If the work requires careful analysis or high-quality writing, Claude 4.7 is the strongest pick. Just be careful of burning through your tokens as you get charged on usage.

All three are strong. Pick based on what the work actually requires.
