Copilot continues to struggle and the numbers don't lie.
Microsoft continues to trim features and began a new alliance, with Anthropic, for Copilot Cowork.
Microsoft is merging Copilot’s consumer and enterprise apps into a single unified app this August, cutting features that failed to gain users, and introducing a new paid tier of background AI agents. Tech Times reported figures showing fewer than 4.5% of Microsoft’s 450 million commercial Microsoft 365 customers currently pay for Copilot features, and that among those who do pay, only 20 to 30% use it on a weekly basis.
Separately, Microsoft 365 Copilot added eight new features in August, including access to GPT 5.6 and Claude models that adapt to tasks like generating reports or summaries, plus Copilot Notebooks, now available to all users for brainstorming and drafting.
