OpenAI's $230 Codex Micro keyboard, built to supervise AI coding agents rather than type, and the question it raises for operations leaders about how soon their own teams shift from operating systems directly to steering agents that run them.

Codex Micro costs $230, comes in clicky and silent versions, and was built with a specialty keyboard maker called Work Louder. The keys light up to show what an AI coding agent is doing in real time. A dial on the board turns up or down how much “thinking” the agent puts into a task, basically a knob for compute. A joystick launches saved workflows. OpenAI told TechCrunch it is a limited run sold while supplies last, not a mass market product.

Look at that feature list again. None of it is built for typing. All of it is built for watching and steering something that is already doing the typing.That is the shift worth noticing.

The keyboard used to be the interface between a person and a machine they operated directly. This one is an interface between a person and a fleet of agents running work on their own. Whatever system your team watches all day, plant screens, lab software, ERP dashboards, is headed toward that same handoff. The people who get ahead of it are the ones deciding now how much of that supervision they actually want to hand off.
